Auto Accidents and Truck Accidents
As any automobile accident lawyer knows, whether
in Philadelphia or elsewhere, personal injury cases arising from auto
accidents and truck accidents are among the most common of all personal
injury cases. Sometimes motor vehicle accidents are caused by improperly
maintained roads or poor signage. Most accidents occur because a driver
is pre-occupied and not fully focused on the task of driving. Other
times, drivers are simply going too fast because they are in a hurry
to get somewhere. On other occasions, negligent drivers may be talking
on cell phones, watching movies on dvd players, adjusting the radio,
drinking coffee, picking up an item they dropped on the floor, or
any one of a number of other actions that lead to automobile and truck
accidents. Because there are more distractions today than at any point
in history, the problem may only be expected to intensify in the near
future.
Although common in number, the injuries that auto accidents produce
are far from common. Indeed, some of the most serious injuries that
we have encountered were the result of auto accidents. Auto accidents
can produce less severe, but chronic and nagging injuries, such as
soft tissue injuries and whiplash. Injuries involving cars and other
motor vehicles may also produce very serious trauma such as traumatic
brain injury, lacerations, disfigurement, and even death.
Similarly, truck accidents can yield extremely severe personal injuries.
When a heavy truck collides with a smaller passenger vehicle, a motorcycle
or a pedestrian, it is hardly surprising that serious injuries result,
including, for example, head injuries, spinal cord injuries, broken
bones, paralysis, and sometimes death. Whether the truck driver, his
employer, the owner of the vehicle and other potentially responsible
parties complied with applicable safety laws, Department of Transportation,
and Motor Carrier Safety regulations, as well as an ordinary standard
of care, are important questions. These issues require an understanding
of how straight trucks, box trucks tractor trailers and other trucks
operate and how they are required to operate. Each truck accident
lawyer at Philadelphia-based Kane & Silverman has substantial
experience in preparing, settling, and if necessary, trying truck
accident cases, to obtain substantial monetary awards for our clients.
Under Pennsylvania law, you have the right to recover damages if
you were injured in an automobile accident or a truck accident due
to another’s negligence. You can recover not only for your out
of pocket expenses such as medical expenses, damage to your vehicle
and other personal property, but also for disfigurement, pain and
suffering, lost wages, and additional expenses that you now have to
pay third parties because you are no longer able to perform tasks
by yourself, such as ordinary household maintenance. If you were injured
in an automobile accident or a truck accident, you need to seek the
advice of an experienced auto accident lawyer or
a truck accident lawyer. Philadelphia law firm, Kane & Silverman, P.C. can help.
