According to Occupational and Safety Administration, more commonly known as OSHA, there are approximately 125,000 cranes that are in operation in the United States today. An additional 80,000 to 100,000 cranes are in use in general and maritime industries as well. A recent Department of Labor study announced that crane accidents caused the death of 72 construction site workers in 2006.
The Crane-related Occupational Fatalities Fact Sheet, which was released in July 2008, declared 10 fatalities to construction workers, 8 to electricians, and 6 to welders, cutters, solderers and brazers.
