An Amazon employee required to work was exposed to COVID-19. As a result, the employee became infected. Then, the employee infected several family members. As a result, one of the family members died.
This employee and others have filed against the online retailer. The lawsuit claims Amazon failed to protect employees from exposure to the coronavirus.

Amazon Changes Policies
At the beginning of the pandemic, Amazon announced policy changes. The changes allowed sick employees to stay home. But, sick employees did not receive paid time off. This lasted about a month. Then, warehouse employees needed to return to work or lose their job.
Amazon Coronavirus Lawsuit
Amazon is being sued over its neglectful actions. The cases state Amazon promoted unsafe working conditions and failed to provide protective equipment. The company puts profits ahead of employee health and safety.
The lawsuit states Amazon is more interested in boosting productivity at the expense of its worker’s safety.
Over 1,600 Amazon employees have tested positive for coronavirus. Amazon retorted they are providing the proper equipment and standard safety measures.
Another claim suggests Amazon deters employees of even “basic hygiene” if it takes them away from their station. The follow-up states the employer is failing to communicate safety protocols. Additionally, the company doesn’t communicate positive test results to other employees.

Endangering Employee’s Lives
Amazon resumed conventional leave policies forcing employees to report for work, even when they are sick. In the suits, employees state Amazon values profit over health. Going to work is a gamble between exposure and stable income. Each Amazon employee deserves better.
This is exposing innocent employees to the illness unbeknownst to them. Employers have a legal and moral responsibility to keep employees safe. They can be held liable if proven negligent.

Amazon is one of the largest employers in the US. All employers must uphold the standard duty of care for their employees. If employees test positive for COVID-19, they must stay home to protect themselves and others. Sick employees shouldn’t have to worry about their job.
