What Happened?
Around 10:40 pm on November 16, emergency services responded to a fire call. The fire quickly spread to become a 5-alarm fire emergency. Fire tore through at least two large buildings in the facility. Residents and staff evacuated. Desperate to help people, at least one firefighter continued until his helmet melted. The heat was intense!
How Did This Happen?
Investigations are ongoing at this point. Investigators are working to determine the fire source. They will continue their investigation through the holiday. Meanwhile, victims and their families are struggling to deal with the aftermath. What a terrible thing to happen right before this day of thanks.
Many questions arise. We are grateful for the fast response of staff and emergency crews. Many people were saved. But, could this fire have been avoided? Were there unsafe conditions that contributed to the fire? Did the fire spread so quickly due to sub-standard building materials?
