New Jersey Priest Sex Abuse
Recently, the Catholic church has been under fire. Survivors are coming forward claiming childhood sexual abuse from clergy members. Updated laws help those harmed by New Jersey priest sex abuse.

New Jersey Sex Abuse Statute Of Limitations
The state of New Jersey has extended the statute of limitations for people assaulted by priests. The state also allows a two-year window for existing priest sex abuse survivors. The two year period begins December 1, 2019, and ends December 1, 2021. The window allows previously ineligible survivors the ability to sue in civil court. Survivors can file a claim against the institution and perpetrator that assaulted them. Future abuse cases allow survivors until age 55 or within seven years of realization.

Church Negligence
It is the responsibility of the institution to keep everyone safe within the church. This includes stopping and reporting abuse if detected. Failure to do so is negligence. Where there is negligence, injury occurs to more innocent people. They have to stop the possibility of sexual abuse happening.
In most cases we’ve seen, the church was aware of the priests abusing people. But, the church was more concerned with reputation. Instead of reporting abuse, the church shuffled priests to other locations. This allowed priests to assault more people.
