In 2018, a petition to ban the drug rose to the surface. The Public Citizen group petitioned the FDA to remove Uloric from the shelves.
The group representative stated, “There is overwhelming evidence that the serious cardiovascular harms of febuxostat outweigh any purported clinical benefit.”
The FDA did not agree to the petition stating the drug is useful to some patients. However, the FDA did reject the drug twice in the past. This has victims of Uloric cases outraged.
